United Nations demands probe of bomb incident: "The United Nations (UN) on Tuesday reiterated its demand for a full scale investigation by the Federal Government into last Friday's deadly bomb blast at its office in Abuja to forestall its recurrence.
"There must be a full investigation into the incident by the Federal Government. Measures need to be taken with a joint collaboration with government and the UN authorities to ensure that the UN mission continues in its mission to bring development to the people," the UN Resident Coordinator in Nigeria, Daouda Toure, said.
Mr. Toure, who made the demand while presenting an update on the incident, said death toll from the attack now stands at 23, consisting 11 United Nations (UN) staff, (10 Nigerians and one Norwegian), nine non-UN staff and three unidentified persons.
Apart from 73 others who received various degrees of injuries and are currently receiving treatment at different hospitals around the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Mr. Toure said eight other UN staff members on life support as well as four who were critically injured were evacuated in an air ambulance to South Africa on Sunday and Monday respectively" (click link to view complete article)

UN Peace Update: BBC News - Kosovo border violence on UN Security Council agenda
BBC News - Kosovo border violence on UN Security Council agenda: "The Security Council is meeting on Tuesday to hear a quarterly update on the situation in Kosovo from the UN Secretary General, Ban Ki-moon.
But this session is the most eagerly awaited for some time as it comes during a period of heightened ethnic tension in the territory, BBC Balkans correspondent Mark Lowen reports from Belgrade.
When the Kosovan government sent police into the north to take control of border posts with Serbia that had not previously been under its authority, the Serb population in the north rebelled, leading to clashes in which a policeman died.
The Nato force in Kosovo intervened, mediating between the two sides.
Now Russia, a staunch ally of Serbia, has prepared a draft document to be presented to the Security Council condemning what it calls the use of force by the Kosovan government and calling for international institutions in Kosovo, such as Nato, to remain impartial.
Serbian Foreign Minister Vuk Jeremic, who will attend the UN session, says he hopes the majority of countries will support the document.
Kosovo's Western backers, including the US, France and Britain, are likely to put up a stiff response but all sides will call for calm, says our correspondent."

World Peace Update: The Negotiator: how to achieve peace “tomorrow” in Israel-Palestine | GlobalPost
The Negotiator: how to achieve peace “tomorrow” in Israel-Palestine | GlobalPost: "BOSTON — In a good year, peace talks over the Israeli-Palestinian conflict transpire at a glacial pace. But these days, they seem to have stalled altogether.
Frustrated by an enduring lack of opportunity, freedom or progress, the Palestinian Authority has opted to try a different approach. In September, Palestinian officials plan to take their case directly to the United Nations, in hopes that the General Assembly will recognize their territories as a legitimate nation.
The approach is controversial, especially in Washington D.C., which provides some $500 million in aid each year, underwriting much of the Palestinian Authority’s budget.
For an analysis of the wisdom of seeking statehood through the U.N., and for insights into how to achieve peace in the Middle East, GlobalPost turned to Stuart Diamond, one of the world’s leading private-sector negotiators." (click site to view complete interview / article)
